As an ILEA member, Walking into Premier Events gets me excited! Excited to see everything from their new linens, the hot colors of the season and the unique setups that only a designer can put together. Walking into Premier Events for the Power Hour lunch was a different type of exciting. Delores is a staple in the wedding industry and everyone knows who she is. Listening to her speak about her career, her company and her success made me even more excited to be a part of this industry.
As we all sat around the decorated farm-style table, we all learned how Premier Events became what it is today with Delores. Premier Events is a third career for Delores from working in the Department of Human Services to weatherizing low-income homes to Premier Events. They now has several locations and Premier Select for the designer clients. With these three very different careers, she has really defined success for herself and her company. She recited, entirely from memory her favorite success quote “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well”- Ralph Waldo Emmerson.
She continued to go through some other success quotes and that we as wedding professionals are customer focused and the answer should always be “yes.” You may not be able to do exactly what the client wants, but you will find able to find an alternative solution and offer them a variation of what they have asked for. She has a team that is organized and prepared but also adaptable, as we all know challenges come up daily.
The guests around the table asked Delores some questions about the future of the event rental industry and the wedding industry as a whole. Collectively we all talked about traffic and logistical challenges that will only continue to get worse and that we have to be prepared to adapt to that. Maybe one day there will be self-driving cars that help with traffic, but until then how can we satisfy our clients while logistics are hard to navigate.
The Power Hour lunch was invigorating and intimate and I now have some new favorite quotes about success! Thank you to Delores Crum and Premiere for hosting us!
