How long have you been at your current job? I have been in my current position since June of this year but have been working with Stacey Hoyt at the Blanton for over three years, first as an intern during my graduate studies and then as a part-time employee.
Current committee you are a part of and title: Programs and Education Committee, Happy Hour Chairperson
How long have you been a member of ILEA? Why did you decide to join a committee? Two years. I enjoy collaborating with other events professionals and find that I enjoy “networking” more when I am serving a function, so you will often find me at registration or helping to pour wine. J
Help us get to know you better!
You have a rare Saturday off of work. What can we find you doing? Hanging out with my daughter Lorelei, prepping for the Introduction to Visual Arts course that I teach at Austin Community College, or traveling out of town to visit friends and probably a museum or gallery.
Favorite Austin Restaurant/Bar/Coffee Shop/Hang out spot? I love The North Door because of the diverse entertainment and Bennu for the good coffee and comfy couches.
If you could only eat this for the rest of your life what would it be? Fresh pasta with homemade basil pesto, a side of mozzarella and prosciutto, and traditional tiramisu for dessert.
Netflix, Google, Instagram, Facebook, Amazon, Uber/Lyft, Favor/Postmates. Choose 3. The other three you can never use again. Amazon has an unfair advantage, because it serves so many functions now a days: shopping, delivery, streaming entertainment. With that in mind, my first choice would be Amazon. Then would come Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends as well as staying up to date on events. Lastly, I would have to keep Google around. It just answers too many questions for me on a daily basis to ever give up.
Who / What is your dream client or event? I am really fortunate to have worked with some great organizations and nonprofits, planning everything from conferences to art shows. I would say that in my current position at the Blanton my dream of producing events based on art is being realized. Art influences many aspects of my life and absolutely serves as a primary source of inspiration when it comes to events. I feel that a well executed event shares many similarities to a perfectly composed work of art. It should look effortless but leave the viewer mystified.
What have you enjoyed the most about ILEA? The people, the education, and the resources. I have really enjoyed meeting the creative and brilliant professionals that make up the myriad pieces of the Austin event industry. Austin’s event professionals are fortunate to have such a beautiful city to serve as backdrop to some amazing world-class events, and I feel that the Austin ILEA chapter does a wonderful job of helping to maintain a high bar … and I’m not just talking about all the great specialty cocktails I have been lucky to sip at various ILEA events.
