ILEA Member Spotlight featuring ILEA member and Communications team blog manager Monica Egan who recently started at a beautiful new wedding venue in Dripping Springs called Saddle Creek. Monica, tell us more about your history with ILEA and your new role!
How long have you been in the events industry? I started in the event industry straight out of college and that was 9 years ago.
What are you most excited about in your new role at Saddle Creek Weddings? I am most excited about being a part of the venue from the ground up. There are a lot of new venues being built or were just recently built but even then the majority of event professional will not have had the opportunity to see the venue built from square one and be a part of the initial team.
Why did you decide to join ILEA?
For me, joining ILEA was a no-brainer. I was in a similar association for event professionals when I was living in Houston and I was looking to create professional relationships with like-minded individuals when I moved to Austin. I moved to Austin five years ago and was in a few associations but now I am fully committed to ILEA (becoming a full member in June of 2017) and I am pretty happy about that.
What is the best part of being an ILEA member?
The best part of being an ILEA member is the community. ILEA members foster the mentality of teamwork and take pride in recommending fellow ILEA members to potential clients. In addition, ILEA members and the events they host strive to continue education and to be the best of the best. It’s phenomenal to be able to tap into the community when you are in need of bettering yourself or of a referral.
Who / What is your dream client or event?
It is a dream come true when a client turns to the pros and hires an A-list line up of vendors including a wedding planner. Clients who completely trust their vendors are always a joy to work with. In my experience, these clients are happy they did so! Event professionals can help clients to think outside of the box and execute a one of a kind event.
What is your advice for staying calm, cool and collected during a particularly stressful event?
Always have a solid plan B and be ready for the unexpected. No one is perfect and even though we plan every detail things can wrong. We hope that they don’t but they do. For example, we can’t control the weather so have a tent on hold or have a backup plan to move indoors. Take a deep breath. At the end of the day you will figure it out and the event will be a success if you have a plan in place. Lastly, smile. I find that if I am smiling my biggest, cheesy, ear to ear smile I can almost convince my brain that we are not having a crisis.
NOW FOR THE FUN QUESTIONS! –

I love that I have built my home and adult life here. I am proud that I moved to Austin in my early twenties and accomplished what I set out to do. Professionally, I like that there are a lot of venues and Austin is a destination for couples looking to get married. I also love that most venues have an outdoor option or a view of the lake or Hill Country.

When I have a day off I like to spend time with my little family. You can find me and my husband walking around Lady Bird Lake with our boxer and toddler, hiking, getting coffee or trying a new restaurant. I also enjoy rummaging antique shops and thrift stores for my next unique find.
If you could have dinner with any 3 artists (dead or alive), who would they be?
