Katie started bartending in Austin in 1999, while she was earning her bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas. Nearly two decades later, her love for the city continues to grow. Like many Austinites, Katie has experienced the incredible growth of Austin over the past 20 years, and during that time, she played a dynamic role in the growth of two local
Austin staples: Chuy’s Tex-Mex and Torchy’s Tacos. Katie was a bartender and corporate trainer at Chuy’s and was Assistant General Manager/Kitchen Manager at one of Torchy’s busiest locations.
Katie was also a member of the closing team of a beloved Austin original–The Austin Music Hall (AMH), where she served as the bar operations and staffing manager for its final four years in existence. While at AMH, Katie succeeded in building a strong team of bartenders and support staff, many of whom she continues to work with today.
In addition to her work at AMH, Katie led her team through numerous SXSW events and installations, ACL after-parties, and various small and large festivals. She helped organize, plan, and execute the bars for the fast-growing Euphoria Festival 2015 and 2016, where she served as operations and staffing manager for the three-day festival.
Katie’s gregarious personality and apparent work ethic have led event organizers and planners to personally seek her out to staff and work many weddings, private parties, and events over the past several years. Katie fell into freelance bartending and, when available, serves as the bar lead for another local catering company. Katie is embracing Austin’s growth and will continue to play her part in sharing with others three things that make Austin one of the world’s best cities: amazing people, hard work, and great parties.
Current Job Description: I have been in the events industry for 10 years. A little over a year ago I started, ‘Raising the Bar’ with my business partner, Robert Clem, after my home base, The Austin Music Hall (AMH), was torn down. My responsibilities now are similar to what my responsibilities were at AMH with the additional responsibility of booking events and corresponding to clients. I also staff the events and handle the correspondence with the staff, including keeping track of all paperwork/permits. I take care of inventory, shopping for and ordering product. I plan out, organize and pack-up the equipment needed for each event. And I help consult with the clients to come up with their drink menu.
