“It was a true honor to receive the ILEA Austin Scholarship for ILEA Live 2017 in Calgary. While I have been fortunate to attend other ILEA Live Conferences, due to participation on the board, it was very nice to be able to attend and strictly focus on education versus also trying to also manage board duties. It is an honor to represent the Austin Chapter and be there on behalf of Austin, the BEST Chapter in the World!
As we all know, our industry is consistently changing at a rapid pace. Technology and expectations for events continue to drive event professionals to stay on their toes, continue to learn and be abreast of the new and coming trends. Attending conferences, such as ILEA Live, gave me the opportunity to really see what is out there in terms of education within our events profession. The opportunities are all around us from attending the educational sessions to the activations to hearing the motivational keynote speakers. Attending ILEA Live not only gives me the base knowledge on how to execute some of these new elements for our events but, also to see how important that it is that we are executing new and exciting things, regularly. It gives me an opportunity, as a business owner to learn, meet others and absorb as much as I can while I am there for those few days.
The education that we receive at ILEA Live is something that is amazing in terms of not only learning about event life. For example trends, execution, timelines, etc. But, it also covers things that help your creativity, motivation, and development, both personally and professionally. For that reason, I feel like we get a wide range of coverage of knowledge, which makes the time there very worthwhile.
When I began attending ILEA Live, I never really understood not only the value of the education but also the value of the networking that comes with attending these types of conferences. Through meeting new event professionals, you also can gain the in-depth knowledge and a lifeline, should you get stuck in a concept, event or idea execution. We don’t travel a ton for my job as a vendor, but, when I do, I have an automatic network that I can reach out to, to ask questions to and available should something come up. Similarly, we can be available for people who might come to Austin for different events or have different needs. I have also firsthand seen jobs being created and earned due ILEA Participation and through meeting other people at these events.
This industry is incredibly small, as a whole. And, you never know where life might take you either with your profession or other life moves. It’s very nice to have those connections to reach out to, especially already established in our industry. I highly encourage attending ILEA Live and really going all in and participating. Go to the extra events, all the sessions, meet the people from all over the world… and, connect. Through those connections, it not only helps you as an event professional but you also might be able to help someone else, too!”
