Meet Anastasia Strate
Anastasia Strate is a natural lighting wedding and family photographer located in Austin, Texas
that combines romantic portraits with a documentary style.
How long have you been a wedding photographer?
I’ve been taking photos of my friends and family ever since I owned a camera but officially launched my photography business in 2013.
What or who is your dream client and why?
My dream clients are those that focus on their marriage rather than a wedding. They appreciate natural lighting and value the moments that matter. They believe you can never replace a classic look, and they are genuine and kind.
What has been your most memorable event or photo shoot to date?
This one is hard! I’ve had so many wonderful experiences taking photos of my clients. The one that comes to mind is an engagement session in the high Utah mountains a few years ago. In the middle of taking photos I noticed a huge moose come out from the trees and start walking up behind the couple. Needless to say, we got out of there really quick!
Any mentors or people who inspire you, you look up to – industry or non-‐industry?
There are a lot of great photographers. I really like Elizabeth Messina. Her work is amazing!
Favorite thing to do when you are not working?
Spend time with my family
What is a unique fact about you?
I was born in Germany, grew up in Russia, and moved to the United States in my twenties.
How long have you been in Austin and what has been your favorite Austin experience?
My husband and I moved to Austin 1.5 years ago and we love it here. Austin has a very relaxed and fun atmosphere. I love river walks with my baby.
Favorite Austin Restaurant/Hang out spot? Favorite food?
We love meat! So we’ve been exploring a lot of BBQ places. Our favorites are Ruby’s, Terry Black’s and Salt Lick. I also love crepes so I really enjoyed Crepe Crazy.
Anastasia loves to travel so we asked, where did you go to on your most recent vacation?
Our most recent vacation was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Traveling with a toddler has definitely lowered our travel expectations. We try to take the shortest flights possible now.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
I would go and explore Italy for a month! I think that country is so beautiful and has so much art, history, and food to offer.
What is the neatest place you have ever visited?
My husband and I went to Hong Kong a few years ago and we really liked it. The cultural experience was amazing, but most importantly I saw pandas. I love pandas and it was really fun to see them in person.
If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would it be?
Kate Middleton! Honestly, I want to wear the fancy outfits and have tea parties in Kensington Palace.
