ILEA Member Spotlight featuring Jessica Kirby, Event Manager at Clink Events. Jessica, tell us more about your role at Clink Events and your history with ILEA!
We asked Jessica;
How long have you been in the events industry and how long have you been managing events at Clink?
I’ve been involved in the event industry for seven years. My first job was actually with The Cupcake Bar while I was in college! As for CLINK, I started out as an intern then became a contractor and started full time shortly after.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy getting to create memories for my clients. Some of my favorite moments have been seeing a client (whether it’s a wedding or a gala) light up when they walk in the event room minutes before guests arrive. A tie for what I enjoy most would be the connections and relationships I’ve built with the partners CLINK works with. I’ve met so many wonderful people through CLINK and ILEA!
Why did you decide to join ILEA? How long have you been an ILEA member?
I joined ILEA as a student member when I was in college. I heard about it through a UT event planning organization I was involved in and since I knew I wanted to be in the event industry, I joined. I’ve been a member since 2011 and have been on the board for 4 years.
What is the best part of being an ILEA member?
For me, it has been a way for me to continue learning and growing as an event producer. There are always going to be new trends, guidelines or SOPs and ILEA has always done a great job at shedding light on what it is we should know as event professionals. I also love the connections I’ve made through ILEA. When I first joined, I hardly knew anyone and barely spoke at meetings. ILEA has helped me grow and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.
Who / What is your dream client or event?
I am lucky enough to say that I experienced my dream event last November. My wedding, as cheesy as it may sound, was beyond anything I could have dreamed of. It was my perfect day.
What is your advice for staying calm, cool and collected during a particularly stressful event? You never want your client to see you sweat. If you stay calm, they will stay calm and so will those around them. My advice is to have back up plans (A, B C, D and E) if there is something you think could potentially cause stress. Make sure you and your team are prepped and you will know exactly what to do if something occurs.
Now for the fun questions!
What do you love most about living in Austin?
I love that Austin has seen me through many phases of my life. I went to college here, I started my first full-time job, I met the love of my life and I got married. Austin has taught me so many things but I definitely love how it taught me to be a foodie (I use to be a picky eater)!
What do you enjoy doing when you have time off?
I enjoy spending time with my husband – whether it’s watching Netflix, playing with our dog or checking out a local brewery or restaurant. I also enjoy quality time with our family and friends.
If you could have dinner with any 3 artists (dead or alive), who would they be?
Adele because she is amazing and her music is perfection!
Sam Smith – again, he is pure talent!
A poet – maybe E.E Cummings or Tyler Knott Gregson (I’ve always loved poetry)
What is your dream vacation destination and why?
Europe! I loved my time in Europe but it was years ago and I’m ready to go back. I’d love to spend a few days roaming the streets of Paris, riding bikes in Tuscany, sipping wine on the Amalfi Coast and traveling all over – from Prague to Spain to Greece. The culture and architecture that you can immerse yourself in while in Europe is amazing. You can feel it throughout each place you visit.
