- How long have you been at your current job? Since October 2015, so just over 2.5 years.
- Please list some previous experience you feel has helped you prepare for a career in the events industry? I helped coordinate the arrivals and departures of two waves of 600+ participants to/from a downtown Los Angeles hotel via LAX based on two separate shuttle schedules. I’ve created multiple dine around tours in various cities. I’ve lead a production team that created custom furniture pieces, structures, and centerpieces. I’ve worked on a team that creates high-end dining experiences with gala décor for 1,500 guests, then struck/flipped the ballroom in under (90) minutes for their after party.
What’s your favorite thing about the event industry?
I love that no two days (or events) are the same. Our industry is always expanding in creative ways that really challenges us to always think outside the box.
Why did you join ILEA?
I joined ILEA to connect with local experts and learn more about the city from like-minded individuals.
What have you enjoyed the most about ILEA?
I appreciate that everyone comes from the mindset—we all want to learn, teach, and grow as professionals.
Best advice you have for others or have been given?
Maintaining good vendor relationships is a major factor to an event’s success. You never know when you’re going to need a pair of hands to help you. Also, a positive attitude and a smile go a long way.
Favorite thing to do when you are not working?
Hosting dinner parties or exploring Austin with our new puppy!
Most Recent Vacation Spot?
Hawaii with my family, celebrating my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary.
Favorite Austin Experience?
Wandering around the farmers market always inspires me in the kitchen and we have so many great local purveyors to choose from!
Favorite Austin Restaurant/Hang out spot? Favorite food?
I always enjoy having lunch meetings at Fareground. There really is something for everyone! When clients come to town, I love taking them to Roosevelt Room for an elevated cocktail experience. And my favorite food is anything homemade. I feel like people take a little extra pride and care in their dishes when they’re planning to share with others.
Any mentors or people who inspire you, you look up to – industry or non-industry?
I really admire the two owners of our company – Brynne Frost & Ana Reilly. They started DCi over 20 years ago with three employees and have grown it into a successful business with corporate relationships all over the world. They are still actively involved with the day to day business of DCi, as they are part of the sales executive team.
